Sutton Green ladies storm to victory at Surrey Centenary Open

Formed in 1900 and becoming the Surrey Ladies County Golf Association in 1929 the success of SLCGA is testament to the growing force of ladies golf across Surrey.

With over 7000 members and 103 affiliated clubs, SLCGA organise competitions throughout the year and it was on a barmy warm day in October that the Sutton Green ladies ventured out to take part in the Centenary Plate Final.

The Centenary Plate is a Surrey Competition for teams of 5 with handicaps of 10 and above played off scratch. Each round consists of home and away matches – leading to a single round on a neutral course for the final.

Taking place at Burhill Golf Club on 15th October the final was a very close affair and saw our defending Sutton Green ladies take on Dulwich and Sydenham Hill who were playing in the final for the first time ever.

With the score at 2-2 the final match headed off down the 18th with a large crowd of players and supporters following.

Sutton Green's Nadean Withers held her nerve to secure victory and see our ladies team retain the trophy.

Well done ladies - the club is extremely proud of you.

If you are a keen lady golfer the club is always delighted to welcome new players – whether it’s as a visitor to play the course, book up golf lessons with our pro or as a new member. Who knows, in years to come it could be you holding up that trophy.
