An update from club golf pro Gary Smith

It's been a while since my last update and the rumours of my retirement have been greatly exaggerated! It's true I've cut down on my coaching days but it's still been a very busy and productive year for both my students and me. The truth is I love the process of coaching and have no plans to stop anytime soon.

Future Talent

In addition to my adult students I've been working for over a year with an exceptionally talented young player, Frank Kennedy. This year Frank has won the European Championships at Celtic Manor, the Under 12's Publix Championships in Miami, the Cheshire Under 14 Championships and finished 11th in the IMG World Championships U11/12.

I've been focusing on Frank's short game for over a year now and his performance has at times become world class. His up and down stats show a massive improvement, as has his scoring and results. Frank is without doubt a very special talent and I'm looking forward to working with him for the 2018 season to help take him to even more success in the UK and around the world. Keep an eye on Frank, he's one to watch!

Fun in the Sun

Back in May I took a group of mixed ability students to La Cala, near Malaga in Spain. If you fancy some golf lessons in the Spanish sun why not join me in May 2018. We stay in the outstanding resort of La Cala, near Mijas in Spain. This is an opportunity to work on every aspect of your golf game with me, and enjoy with fellow golf enthusiasts 3 rounds of fun, yet competitive golf together with great food and wine. All in the warm Spanish sun. Many students return year after year so why not give me a ring if you're keen to experience a great few days.

Golf Talk

Earlier in the year I was approached by a former Gloucestershire County student, Chris Baker, to talk at length about my views, experiences and approach to all things golf and coaching. It's approximately 45 minutes of conversation with Chris which if you find yourself with time to fill, have a listen.

Finally, I have no doubt that the key to self improvement is attitude to change and a clear explanation and understanding of the process of improvement. If you possess a realistic approach to your game and are keen to reach the next level and beyond why not start your winter game improvement programme now.

Give me a call and let's get the process going in plenty of time for the 2018 season.

I hope to see you out on the Sutton Green golf course very soon.
